MDLR Architects have been working closely with Hackney Empire, a charitable organisation run by local residents, on a small urban realm project commemorating patrons of theatre as well as local talent. Bronze plaques installed in the pavement outside the Empire were unveiled by actress Barbara Windsor, herself honoured with a plaque. Also recognised were architect of the Empire Frank Matcham, and Oswald Stoll, co-founder of the Empire theatre chain.
Jordan from MDLR Architects, also a Hackney resident, designed and coordinated fabrication of the plaques, working closely with Hackney Council to ensure successful installation. A further 100 plaques are planned during a long term programme phased over a number of years.
