Tempohousing UK & Ireland are an offsite housing supplier providing modular low carbon homes for the UK and Irish markets. We were asked to develop a typology of apartments and homes using standardised factory-made volumetric components, but in such a way that they could be configured to create different development types to suit specific site requirements.
Our past experiences of offsite projects meant that we had the right set of skills and expertise to deliver this project, which included:
- Concept design of a range of factory made, repeatable modular apartments and houses utilising volumetric construction systems.
- Overcoming challenges of transportation, adaptable design and efficiency.
- Configuration of the same elements in new and creative ways.
We were able to draw on our experience to successfully consider all project constraints and produce laterally deliverable designs. As a result, we:
- Developed a range of different sized apartment types using repeatable modules and components.
- Developed varied external appearances using a minimal number of repeatable components.
- Successfully navigated the constraints of volumetric construction, transportation and assembly.
The result was the successful concept design of a modular, low carbon village for Tempohousing UK & Ireland. This included the development of a range of different types of housing using limited volumetric modules. Each home allows bolt-on accessories to add personal touches, whilst maintaining a community feel to the development.
